All going down hill?

As I have been reading through the news these days to find an article to analyze I feel down after being done reading. Is it that there really is just bad news for now or is it that my eyes are drawned to the bad news, or is it the newspaper presenting bad news, because that’s what we want to read? I wonder if i would react the same if it was all happy news, complain that the news are boring, because they are all happy.

War, murder, economic crise, unemployment rate up, drugs, the ususal and a lot more, but it is still all the “same” news and the same countries in them. Does that mean that there hasn’t been any improvement or do the newspapers look for bad news to present to us, look for the bad in the aspect?

Anyhow, what I do know is that I don’t want to read depressing news and feel that there is no hope for this country and this world. Although I must admit that I read the article about a 14 year old american boy that was kidnapped at 11 to work for a cartel in Mexico. He had decapitated 4 people and dumped bodies and stuff. Now as much as I could be without evil news like that, I still found it to be interesting reading.

A call for more happy news would probably require a big change in the world and not only what the news choose to present to us. Once in a while an article about hope comes a long, but I do think that the news should try and write more of those, because it is said that hope is the last thing to leave us, except for life itself I guess.

NO material girl

Yesterday I found out that there is something called Black Sunday and all my girlfriends were gonna go up early and make their way around stores. My materialistic sense took over and I wanted to join in on the spectacle. They declared that we were leaving at four in the morning because Macy’s opened then. Now that was an early strategy, but I said I was on, because my fingers was itching to shop, my cards in the wallet are restless.

As I went to bed I remembered that I had promised myself to try and not to be a typical Swedish material girl and only buy things I really need. I started thinking back on when I was hidding my shopping bags from my parents, so they wouldn’t question what I bought. My wardrobe contains a lot of things I wore once or not at all. When I moved to the US, my mom got a bit angry when she saw that I left clothes at home that still had tags on them. I pulled them of and said ”see, no tags anymore, cool down”, but I did actually feel bad over spending money on those damn clothes. I also have a lot of studies to do instead of shopping, but I started justifying it by making up things I really needed to buy to make myself come with on the shopping spree.

Instead I didn’t set my alarm to go up at four, ditched the shopping and is now sitting at home studying, saving money I would have spent on useless stuff. In all that turmoil I wouldn’t have found what I needed anyway. I also hate sales, hate that it’s crowded, hate that the stores are a mess, and I hate coming home with items I wouldn’t have bought if they weren’t on sale. I fought my materialistic consuming needs and what helps is that we just read Nietzsche in my politics class. He basically believes in nothing but the will to power and questions everything, maybe too much, but I’m applying it a bit. I guess I’m reevaluating my materialistic values by exaggerating, which would be the answer to my little brothers question on why I now a days insist on dressing ”trashier”. My shopping might end up the same after the reevaluation and they might not, but I hope I reach a compromise.

I have been wanting to volunteer at an Orphanage in India for a long time and I need to ”come down” to be able to do that. I can’t say ”see you later orphan kids, I’m gonna go shopping in town”. Like I wrote before, I’m exaggerating to make myself feel more guilty about spending and with that said, I’m not a rich kid, so my spending actually impact me in the long run and my parents shouldn’t have to pay for that. Neither do I want to pay for those useless stuff later on, I hate the useless stuff in my wardrobe. It’s just so easy to swipe your card, thinking you need it and sometimes even get a crush on things. Well I fought my consumer need once more, pat on the shoulder.

Dirty, expensive Campaigns?

Lately when I have been sitting on youtube I first have to listen to a commercial message. It shows a man digging a big whole in the ground and a blond little girl looking down at him saying “Please Mr, stop digging”. A voice says something about the health care bill are digging a deeper whole in the US budget, increasing debt, with other words making the economy worse. It’s sponsored in a way that it doesn’t name any people or any party affiliation, but the message is clearly against democrats and Obama.

Reading my political science book I can remember some campaign commercials on TV or some signs set up. It is pretty common with negative ads, such as pointing out other peoples flaws and wrong doings, attack ads. Or doing both, attack and suggest, contrast ads. Invoking fear or just making a try to actully make people belive this “bad” is true, they might have gained a voter.

I can’t help but wonder how many are pursuaded by these campaigns, except for the ones that has a party identification. Many people already vote according to their “party” so the campaign are mainly aimed at the independents and the undecided. Do I care about the digging message on my youtube clip? No! I almost never take a side without hearing the other, for me to embrace that short campaign message would be to declare myself stupid, but that cute little girl got me listening with her plead and puppy eyes, so it was a good strategy in the commercial.

Congressional campaigns raised 1.2 billion dollars across the nation and the presidential candidates 1.02 billion. There is probably more money to it and all of this to get America to vote for one special person over others with mostly dirty campaigns. It still circles in the economy, but how about putting a roof over the campaign money, making the candidates campaign for an equal amount of money and put those donations to better use. How about putting them into the whole the little girl is talking about in the commercial.

Boobs and tiers <3 from Russia

So sex sells right? But is it really just to put a girl/ some girls with hardly any clothes  in a commercial and people buy? I came across this Russian commercial for tiers and had a laugh. The commercial is so bad that it’s good, like those jokes that are so dry, that you just have to laugh. Look at this clip and then tell me if you feel like buying tiers or not…

High sexy shoes, girls dancing in underwear, rolling around on the floors with the tiers throwing their hair to a good beat spreading their legs. Close up on boobs, thighs, ass and a hot body dancing next to a pile of tires. This is clearly aimed for men, since one assumes that it’s mostly men buying tiers. Men in need of tiers, men that didn’t know they were in need of new tiers, or actually in NO need of tiers, will definetly remember this commercial. Mission accomplished! I think even I would remember it and as a girl buy tiers there, beacuse I have decided that this commercial is cool.

Sex objects in media…becoming more equal?

There has long been the debate about sex objects in media, that sex sells, that throwing the clothes gives celebrities or unknown hot people attention. Media has mostly used girls as sex objects and when I was younger I used to wonder why there were women on the magazines for both men and women. I mean I would still have bought Cosmo, if not even more if there was a hunk on the cover, rather than a skinny junky like Kate Moss for the hundred time.

With the word hunk it was clear that both females and males were used as sex objects, (girls don’t forget Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise easily or the gardner in DH, or at least not my girls), but girls have always been used a bit more because of the porn industry and Hugh Hefner. Today however, if we exclude the porn industry, I can see this sex object thing becoming more towards equal. When I talk to my girlfriends or they pass around videos or pictures on Facebook or on their blogs, they are not doing it much differently from men.

This one was happily shared on facebook…for the girls, even though they all hate the kind of underwear he is wearing, they see past it.

Are we in fact becoming more equal in that sense? Is the next step more strip clubs for women, cause I know that is happening in parts of Asia (If I remember the documentary correctly that I saw years ago). One thing is for sure, sex does sell and media will keep stripping people, men and women.

For the boys…

What was it commercial for again?

(My friend read this post before I posted it and she asked with a huge smile if she could please watch the Ronaldo clip, she didn’t even notice the clip for the boys)

Democratic hypocrites

Most of the countries in the world now have the label democracy, but practise it in different kinds of democracy and at different levels. Those of us that live in western countries also gladly promote this form of governance, but there seems to be a time and place for when to be democratic and when to highly misunderstand this concept.

In Sweden there was recently an election for a new government. A racist party called SD has gained in popularity mostly because of the governments and parties incapacity to deal with immigration. They are afraid of being called racists. The other parties refused to have contact with this party and basically pretended it didn’t exist until the election, which was a big mistake.

The Party then gained enough votes and popularity to sit in the government, which turned Sweden upside down and people started to point fingers. SD was not allowed nor welcome in the government. On Facebook people started fighting and removing friends for voting on SD. An application for ”liking difference” was sent around and it felt like a racist hunt. I didn’t feel the need to prove I’m not a racist so I ignored it. Even the media joined in, but that is not the right way to deal with the problem is it. You can’t right wrong with wrong. A hacker broke in to the SD member system and hung out names and an assault was made on one of the members of the party. Is this democracy? Are democracy only for people with the ”right” opinion?

I mean as much as you are allowed to have the opinion that racism is not good and don’t belong in the government, people are also entitle to think the opposite and still enjoy the same degree of democracy, otherwise we are hypocrites. You can’t ignore the votes and kick them out of the government because it’s voted on in the name of democracy. It’s bad that this has happened, but I know why it happened and so does the government and still they refuse to see, still the other parties refuse to deal.

Those who can’t see why this happened are as ignorant as the racists running the party SD. This was the way for Sweden to riot, to shed light on the matter. Most of the people voting on SD aren’t even racists, they just want the government to become aware of that there is an immigration aspect to be dealt with. Voting on SD might not be the smartest approach, but it sure created turmoil.

If the parties are wise they approach the immigration issue and stop being afraid of being called racists and then by next election I can promise that SD will hardly have any followers left. It will all just be a memory, or it might just take the same tour again. Ignorance from both sides will feed this party. Let’s hope that the country has learned from this.

Apparently it’s okay to show your ass on Halloween…

Everywhere people are decorating for upcoming Halloween and this will be my first American Halloween. In Sweden it’s growing, but it ain’t that big. More like it’s embaressing showing up on a party in a costume and even though kids wants to trick or treat, because they seen it on Tv, very few actually have any candy to give. Here it’s huge and commecialized and we have decided to go all in with awsome super hot costumes.

When I arrived to the store my notion of awsome and super hot changed quickly. I mean I was thinking a bit slutty, but come on. I could count out more than half of the costumes because they were either too much fabric (no I don’t want to be a teletubbie or a ketchup bottle), or to less fabric. In my point of view, pure bedroom material. I picked out a few “less” hot costumes to try on and damn do they look good on the pictures.

Left one not hot enough?

Bottom line is that I tried on four costumes and three of them showed my ass. My male roomie defineltly thought I should go for the slutty Hermionie (Harry Potter) outfit because of that. I wanted it badly, but just couldn’t buy it because why would I walk around showing my ass? The sales attendent thought I looked adorable and so did I, but a little more fabric on the lenght please. Her response were “Ohh don’t worry about that, it’s Halloween”. This made me wonder how far this Halloween costume thing has actually has gone? It’s okay for me to show my ass in a WAY to short dress on Halloween?

I texted my American friend and asked her what she’s gonna be and get the answer, Lady Gaga Cop Version, bra, panties, fishnet stockings. I had to read it again, is she sure she didn’t leave out a piece of clothing? Do I feel this way, because I feel like I don’t have the body to wear a Halloween costume not covering much more than a bikini or showing half my ass? Or is it that the hottness of the Halloween costume has gone too far?

I have seen these hot costume on pictures for a while and always wanted to buy one, but now apparently that pretty hot costume isn’t hot enough. Is it the girls demand on sluttier outfits, or the guys demand, or is it the costume designers? Let’s just say that it’s a competition for “best” costume, so I would say all three together.

Anyhow, Halloween is sure gonna be eyecandy heaven for the guys and I’m gonna feel prude and maybe too dressed in my naughty Dorothy dress that actually covers my ass.
